School summary

Founded in 1887 and part of the Girls' Day School Trust, Streatham & Clapham High School educates girls from ages three to eighteen in Lambeth. With 637 pupils and a notably low pupil-to-teacher ratio of around eight to one, classes are small and attention is plentiful. The Independent Schools Inspectorate rated the school 'excellent' for both education quality and personal development at its most recent inspection. A distinctive feature is the firm approach to mobile phones: Year 7 pupils are discouraged from bringing smartphones at all, and all phones are locked away in bespoke lockers until the end of the school day.

Where every mark matters.

Teaching & academics

At GCSE, 76 per cent of grades reach the 9-7 band, and the curriculum is broad, taking in sciences, Latin, Mandarin, Chinese and a range of creative and technical subjects. At A-level a third of entries are graded A*-A and just over two-thirds reach A*-B, with Psychology, Mathematics, Government and Politics and the sciences among the popular choices. The EPQ is offered alongside A-levels, giving sixth-formers scope for independent research. Around 18 per cent of pupils receive SEN support, well above what many independent schools report.

Beyond the classroom

Sport is a strong thread, with football, hockey, netball and athletics among the main activities, and a dedicated Sports Scholarship recognising talented athletes. GDST is generous on bursary front

Watch Passmate decide how to teach.

Answer as a child would. Left: what they see. Right: what it learns about them.

A long-established GDST girls' school where small classes, a screen-light school day and generous bursary provision sit alongside a wide-ranging academic and creative offer.

That’s where Passmate comes in. Tutoring is the most effective thing in a child’s preparation - a well-tutored child can outperform the vast majority of their peers. Passmate works alongside your tutor, not instead of them: it learns how your child thinks, finds the gaps, and shows the tutor exactly where to spend each session - so the limited time you have lands on what actually decides a place.

Works alongside your child’s tutor - not instead of them.
